King Abdulaziz University, represented by the University Education Development Center, in collaboration with the Research, Development and Innovation Authority, and Clarivate for the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, organized a workshop titled "Authorship and Publication Ethics" on Monday, November 15, 2024. The workshop targeted faculty members, postgraduate students, and researchers.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Nicholas Tini, Senior Academic and Government Consultant at Clarivate for the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, and Dr. Ayman Aqil, Senior Director of Academic and Government Affairs at Clarivate for the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey.
The workshop focused on several key topics, including publication ethics, research integrity, retraction of data in databases, authorship dispute ethics, understanding and identifying scientific plagiarism, procedures and standards for retracting scientific papers, ethical consequences of violating publication standards, understanding data falsification and fabrication, case studies and examples, methods and resources to ensure research credibility and reliability, types of documents related to the retraction process, globally retracted publications and those in the Middle East region, reasons for retraction with examples, authorship standards,guidelines and criteria, proper attribution of scientific credit, and case studies on common causes of authorship disputes.
It is noteworthy that the University Education Development Center is responsible for advancing the educational level at the university and is considered one of the most important pillars of the academic development process.
This is achieved through organizing activities, forums, and discussion sessions aimed at improving the teaching, research, and educational processes for faculty members, lecturers, teaching assistants, and postgraduate students. Since its establishment, the center has been working to build bridges of communication with all sectors and branches of the university to meet the training needs of the academic staff by providing appropriate and innovative content in educational, teaching, technical, and research fields. It also focuses on academic leadership to elevate their performance in educational and administrative tasks. Additionally, it equips postgraduate and undergraduate students with the necessary academic and cultural skills to achieve distinction and competency in their academic pursuits.
