King Abdulaziz University, represented by the Institute of Chinese Science and Culture and the Human Capacity Development Center, has launched its inaugural course on the fundamentals of the Chinese language and culture for university affiliates. Titled "Basics of Chinese Language and Culture," the course began on Monday, November 25, 2024, with 75 male and female trainees in attendance. The two-day program is being conducted in the grand hall of the Human Capacity Development Center.
The course, presented by Professor Abeer bint Abdulkhaleq Al-Ghamdi, focuses on introducing Chinese phonetics, providing an overview of Chinese character writing, learning basic phrases and elementary communication skills, and offering a general perspective on Chinese culture. Upon fulfilling the course requirements, participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
Professor Dr. Muhannad bin Ghazi Abed, Dean of the Institute of Chinese Science and Culture at the university, emphasized that this course aligns with the university administration's commitment to developing and enhancing the capabilities of its affiliates across various domains. It also corresponds with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in human capacity development by offering a basic introduction to Chinese language and culture. The course is suitable for beginners with no prior Chinese language study experience, enabling them to learn simple phrases and basic communication, thus offering a foundational framework for participants to build upon as they advance in their Chinese language learning journey.
Mr. Nasser bin Khader Al-Ghamdi, Director of the Human Capacity Development Center at the university, explained that the course aims to enhance basic Chinese language skills and introduce Chinese culture within a comprehensive vision to support professional development and elevate national capabilities. This initiative is part of the center's pivotal role in designing and delivering distinguished training programs that align with local and international labor market requirements. He noted that the center consistently strives to develop qualitative training programs that meet labor market needs and align with the Kingdom's vision, with the intention of exporting these programs beyond the university to serve as a model of educational and training excellence.
He added that the Chinese language course is one step in a series of programs designed to enhance human resources' readiness to engage with global markets and embrace diverse cultures.
It is worth noting that King Abdulaziz University established the Institute of Chinese Science and Culture to contribute to the transfer and localization of knowledge and technology to the Kingdom, while also working to convey the Kingdom's academic message and culture to Chinese academic and research institutions, and to benefit from scientific and academic advancements.
This institute evolved from the previous Chinese Science and Culture Exchange Center, established in 1440 AH. The concept emerged in harmony with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People's Republic of China in the educational field, and in response to the directives issued by His Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his auspicious visit to the People's Republic of China.
